What do Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Tony Blair, David Petraeus and Newt Gingrich all have in common?  All of them attended the “Afternoon Conversation” held in Aspen, Colorado, (6/30), at the Aspen Ideas Festival, which runs from June 27th until July 3rd.  The festival is hosted,by The Aspen Institute, for the purpose of ‘engaging in deep and inquisitive discussion of the ideas and issues that both shape our lives and challenge our times.’  “We are imagining 2024.”

Detroit activists concerned about the massive water shutoffs across the economically devastated city blocked entrances into the yard of Homrich, a firm given a nearly $6million contract to terminate services for hundreds of thousands of people. The firm was hired by emergency manager Kevyn Orr who was appointed by right-wing Gov. The text of a 19-page, international trade agreement being drafted in secret was published by WikiLeaks on Thursday as the transparency group’s editor commemorated his two-year anniversary confined to the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.

Fifty countries around the globe have already signed on to the Trade in Service Agreement, or TISA, including the United States, Australia and the European Union. Despite vast international ties, however, details about the deal have been negotiated behind closed-doors and largely ignored by the press.

In an effort to secure the American embassy in Baghdad, President Obama announced Monday night that he will order 275 U.S. troops back to Iraq. These troops are being described as “equipped for combat”. The order comes only days after the President said that no U.S. troops would be sent to Iraq.

About 160 troops are already in Iraq, including 50 Marines and more than 100 U.S. Army soldiers. The President told Congress that there is no deadline for the stay and that the troops will remain in place as long as necessary to protect American interests.

Supreme Court Moves Toward Legalizing Lying In Campaigns

www.huffingtonpost.com

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in an unanimous opinion Monday that the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List has standing to sue over an Ohio law that prevented it from making false statements about a political candidate in 2010.

SBA List tried to erect billboards in Ohio in 2010 that accused then-Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-Ohio) of supporting “taxpayer funded abortion” because he voted for the Affordable Care Act. Driehaus successfully filed a complaint against the group under an Ohio law that prohibits “false statements” during a political campaign, because federal dollars cannot be used to pay for abortions except in cases of rape and incest.

EXCLUSIVE: My Interview with the Las Vegas Shooters

Arriving at the Bundy Ranch standoff on April 12, I had no idea I would end up interviewing the Las Vegas shooters responsible for the deaths of 5 people, including 2 Las Vegas police officers. As I approached the vicinity, I witnessed a convoy of over a hundred law enforcement vehicles heading south on the I-15, away from the ranch. Unmarked SUVs and other vehicles bearing the seals of the BLM, Rangers, or various police departments retreated back into the desert.

Unarmed, wearing shorts and a t-shirt, I painfully stuck out like a sore thumb.
