SWAT Team Raids Organic Farm, Confiscates Blueberries

A small organic farm in Arlington, Texas, was the target of a massive police action last week that included aerial surveillance, a SWAT raid and a 10-hour search. Members of the local police raiding party had a search warrant for marijuana plants, which they failed to find at the Garden of Eden farm.

But farm owners and residents who live on the property told a Dallas-Ft. Worth NBC station that the real reason for the law enforcement exercise appears to have been code enforcement. The police seized “17 blackberry bushes, 15 okra plants, 14 tomatillo plants … native grasses and sunflowers,” after holding residents inside at GUNpoint for at least a half-hour, property owner Shellie Smith said in a statement. The raid lasted about 10 hours, she said.

Local authorities had cited the Garden of Eden in recent weeks for code violations, including “grass that was too tall, bushes growing too close to the street, a couch and piano in the yard, chopped wood that was not properly stacked, a piece of siding that was missing from the side of the house, and generally unclean premises,” Smith’s statement said. She said the police didn’t produce a warrant until two hours after the raid began, and officers shielded their name tags so they couldn’t be identified.

According to ABC affiliate WFAA, resident Quinn Eaker was the only person arrested — for outstanding traffic violations. The city of Arlington said in a statement that the code citations were issued to the farm following complaints by neighbors, who were “concerned that the conditions” at the farm “interfere with the useful enjoyment of their properties and are detrimental to property values and community appearance.”

The police SWAT raid came after “the Arlington Police Department received a number of complaints that the same property owner was cultivating marijuana plants on the premises,” the city’s statement said. “No cultivated marijuana plants were located on the premises,” the statement acknowledged. The raid on the Garden of Eden farm appears to be the latest example of police departments using SWAT teams and paramilitary tactics to enforce less serious crimes. A Fox television affiliate reported this week, for example, that police in St. Louis County, Mo., brought out the SWAT team to serve an administrative warrant. The report went on to explain that all felony warrants are served with a SWAT team, regardless whether the crime being alleged involves violence.

In recent years, SWAT teams have been called out to perform regulatory alcohol inspections at a bar in Manassas Park, Va.; to raid bars for suspected underage drinking in New Haven, Conn.; to perform license inspections at barbershops in Orlando, Fla.; and to raid a gay bar in Atlanta where police suspected customers and employees were having public sex. A federal investigation later found that Atlanta police had made up the allegations of public sex. Other raids have been conducted on food co-ops and Amish farms suspected of selling unpasteurized milk products. The federal government has for years been conducting raids on medical marijuana dispensaries in states that have legalized them, even though the businesses operate openly and are unlikely to pose any threat to the safety of federal enforcers.

    Great job exposing these turds.

  • John West

This shit is getting out of control.

  • Leonard Pike

HAHA here in Phx AZ I was trying to prevent a beer run at a local convenience store when some MCSO swat team members pulled up IN UNIFORM and refused to get involved they stated they don’t get involved in that kind of thing haha I guess no one was there to give them any direction or tell them what to do they did look kinda lost…

  • Heinous

I would have blown them away with firearms.

NO FARMS NO FOOD PLAIN AS DAY SHEEPLE ( typical MWO abuse of power )

  • signalfire1

I wonder where the statute is that lets them hide their identities.

    Fucking Nazis.

    • Cowboy65

As far as I’m concerned, any LEGIT officer of the law doesn’t cover their name because they have nothing to hide. Those that DO cover their name and hide their identities, are no longer “public servants”, but become part of a “home invasion robbery” and deserve to be dealt with accordingly. Remember people……..THEY work for US. If THEY break the law, it’s OUR job to FIRE them.

      • Nonaya

        or fire upon them…

      • Sherri G

especially in Swat there are many times when they go undercover and therefore their name has to be covered during raids and other activities in order to avoid giving away their identity duh

        • Cowboy65

DETECTIVES go undercover….figure out the target and THEN call in a S.W.A.T. team……..DUH.

          • Sherri G

In Spokane, they are both SWAT and cops who go undercover

  • RageFury

Organic farming, who would have known how dangerous that would be…

  • Mancave Heywood

Yeah and people really think that texas would be the first state to secede from this corrupt govt. This just proves that the only way we can be secure in our homes and gardens is that all the NAZI PIGS in this country need to be eliminated!!

You know I talk about and reveal stories about the massive amount that is happening in outer space and how it relates to earthquake and volcanic activity increase and I talk about space aliens and all that sort of stuff as if it’s real, which I am sure it is, but when I saw this story I couldn’t believe it, but then again isn’t this like a prohibition resurgence probably led by religious who give belief and/or faith in real creators a bad name. Just like what happened in Waco Texas with the MURDER of many men, women and children by the ATF, FBI and National Guard members on site who set them all on fire. Isn’t it weird the liberal want gun control and the conservatives don’t when it’s the conservatives that will be behind these kinds of actions so it will be the liberal what might need to protect themselves. I’m not a proponent of violence but what is someone going to do if they and their family are in the firing line just because they can be put in that firing line regardless of whether they have any justification for being put there. Peace in America is quickly going to be a thing of the past. I think the only ones that can help us now are those creator Beings, not the fake ones that many of the religious and spiritual think they represent, pope, etc. and not the space aliens some are worshiping now, rael, etc. but the real physical beings who created us that can be contacted by pleading with them for help by projecting our asking as far from the planet as we can imagine. I know my message will get few likes but I’m used to that.

    • AJ_Mesalic

Take the time to write shorter, more thoughtful contributions.

    • JoeQWERTY

?? “it’s the conservatives that will be behind these kinds of actions”?

Do you remember Waco? I think not, so please review history & see who was calling the shots, so to speak.

you wanted more government, here’s more government. What’s that, you
only wanted more free stuff from government but not more swat teams?
lol, you’re delusional. More swat teams always comes with more free
stuff. You want government to control your neighbor because you don’t
like his/her fence, or the height of their lawn, or the color of the
paint they used to paint their deck. You don’t like the way they live
their lives. You feel that you are in the majority and have the right
to not have to tolerate the minority. Keep feeding the beast that is
government and one day it will turn on YOU and then you will cry

    • Jessica Davis

Can I quote this? I couldnt say it better myself!!

      • Timothy Winkelkotter

        please do

    • Christien Bender

couldn’t of said it better myself !

    • darlingrats

      Amen brother

    • Bard Papegaaij

You can’t be free AND safe. It’s either/or. If you ask your government to keep you safe they will take your freedom in exchange. It’s quite simple, really.

      • TimSingleton

Like Eisenhower said, no one is safer or more secure than a fellow in a prison cell.

        • yeah right

Yeah tell that to all the poor bastards who get murder, beat up and raped in prison.

          • Timothy Winkelkotter

so you’re saying the “safety” of prison is a facade? agreed. please explain that to a liberal/rino (same thing)

      • Infinity Blues

I haven’t asked them to keep me safe. I feel more safe managing on my own.

        • Bard Papegaaij

You probably didn’t. But every time something bad happens (an accident, a crime, a natural disaster) and the public cries “why didn’t the government do something about this?” it is an invitation for that government to grab more control over our lives. We should learn to ask “what could WE have done about this?” instead.

    • http://annieorganie.com/ Anne Roshkind Temple

Ummmm…. I think that “one day” is here, unfortunately. I remember my parents lamenting on what a tough world I was going to grow up in. That was nothing compared to this. Between our government-gone-nuts and the shape of our food supply (re:GMOs) and factory farming, I do finally believe there is a “use by” date taped to the side of the planet…..

Nice to see where our tax dollars are going.
The MAJORITY of people think marijuana should be at least decriminalized if not legal, so why are we continuing to spend our tax dollars on this shit??

Hey, Amerika, we should be proud of what we have allowed our nation to become. We mlitarized our law enforcement to the point of having our own Gestapo now. We should be proud to have lost what our parents and grandparents died for to preserve. Wake up, Amerika, the political-correctness we strove to attain is killing this nation before our eyes.

LOL! Stupid azz worthless cops.We deserve every bit of this

  • patriotdaddy

when did it become procedure, and NOT a violation of our right to face our accusers…to shield a raiding cops name?! this is NOT constitutional at all…if you are “confident” that you are doing your job under the guidelines of the law…then you should NOT be scared to provide your identity to those being accused!!

    • Robert Banks

If you look at the rules for the City/County that conducted the raid, I assure you that they are very clear that an officer must identify themselves upon request. It does not say they must publicly display their identification.

        • Robert Banks

And I saw you gathering friends to storm the WhiteHouse?

  • twinkie1cat

Sounds like a serious waste of time and money. The police got in deep doodoo in Atlanta. What I think is the problem is that they don’t want to do the dangerous part of their job—-catching actual criminals—but they want to look busy. Like when they periodically arrest my visually impaired friend in Atlanta for walking in the street—jaywalking. He walks in the street because the sidewalks are broken and he can’t see and falls. This has happened about 5 times and always at the end of the montoh when they are trying to make their quotas but don’t want to risk arresting someone who will shoot them.

  • jesustits

    retarded fucking government.

  • AuntySocial

Felonious parking violations? This is total BS.

    • Robert Banks

Nobody said they were felonious. She was arrested(only can be done for a crime) for code violations. This is against the US Constitution. A person can only be deprived of freedom for committing a crime. A city code violation is not a crime. This person does not have a contract with the city, and can not even be charged with the code violation.

  • pappabill

ever notice how much they look and act like Nazi SS troops?

  • cougar 64

swat team members are just pissed because they flunked passing army basic combat training and so now this is the only thing that they can do to get back at people. they are failures in their own lives and so they must make our lives a living hell

somebody needs to get all of the addresses for swat team members everywhere so we can conduct raids on them. fucking worthless cops!

Watch politics closely. The winner is the one that most closely says the things the public wants to hear, but then the agenda changes to the base line both parties really want, once they have office.

    • Kenneth Munson Sr.

First they don’t like what the republicans do so they vote democrat. Then they don’t like what the democrats do so they vote republican. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting things to be different.

  • Jack Mehoff

All you finger pointers talking out your butts only show your total ignorance when you let your butt say things like “It’s republicans fault”, or “the right wingers and FOX News”, or the absolute most idiotic one…” the Hunt brothers funded this or that”, oh and ” it’s the tea party’s fault because blah blah blah”. You show your complete lack of intelligence and show your obvious hand that the media plays right into for you with the conniving gov’t giving the media all the bait to churn into spit. When will you morons wake the *&%$ up and focus on the problem instead of who you THINK is to blame. Who gives a rats butt who is to blame, what are you going to do about it? I say not a darn thing cause you are too limp in the noodle to even comprehend the situation at hand. Wake up and look at the gov’t becoming a complete totalitarian iron fisted control freak that is inundated with control freaks who are narcissistic maniacal power whores from both the republican and democrat parties. Both parties run the scam that nets the same results no matter what method is employed to do it. Wake up! Listen now and WAKE UP!!!!!!! It does not matter what letter comes before or after their name when that letter is either a D or an R and for the most part an I (independent).
What we are witnessing right before our eyes happening with problematic regularity is the police forces of local law enforcement as well as the state agencies all being militarized. They are being outfitted with military combat weaponry, ammunition, fatigues(clothing and all that attaches to it), vehicles, and training. These local gov’t humans are being re educated and re trained to be military personnel and thus they will act as a military squad conducting a military style raid on an enemy target. You are a target, you are not a civilian bystander or even a civilian threat. You are a military target and threat to that military long before they even assemble to conduct an attack and raid. They are conducting military missions within the US border in complete violation of Posse Commitatus Act which forbids that type of action at any time for any reason unless the country is under attack and acts of war have been declared and the country is under marshal law. If anyone doubts this all you need to do is open a website where someone has done some investigating and assembled many accounts from official records to show just how out of control these gov’t participants have become. How they constantly lie to the citizens, they steal billions in the tax revenue coming in through separate set up accounts that used to be known as CAFR’s until those were exposed which detailed just how much the lie about the need for raising taxes due to debt and deficits is. How trillions is held in millions of off shore accounts and how it is so much that no one should have to pay even a penny of tax ever again. EVER AGAIN. See the gov’t operates using a budget it (every gov’t uses this method from local agencies through to the federal agencies) will publish AFTER it spends untold amounts without any accountability. NO where does this happen except in gov’t. Everywhere else save for the reserve banks must operate within an accounting of their expenditures before they spend it so they can remain in business and solvent and not go bankrupt. Gov’t does the exact opposite, they spend without any accounting at all then submit their bill and demand it be paid plus extra to cover what they demand they are going to spend next year before any funds come in the door.
We have problems in this country and those problems begin and end with gov’t officials who act without accountability and act as if they are untouchable. For the most part, it is being shown that they are because they committ countless acts of criminal offenses which are defended as proper by their dept. or administration and then further supported and defended by the judicial branch. It is unprecedented just how far out of control they are. Wake up and open your eyes. save this country if you want to be free until you die of old age.

  • kedwa30

While it’s sad that public money is being wasted with the over-use of these forces, I think in this particular case the worst bit is the hateful neighbors being ugly and depriving this peaceful farm of the use of their property by giving malicious false complaints. Those ugly lying neighbors need to be arrested for the false reports to officers. Those who manipulate the system to use as a weapon need to face the full wrath of that system.

    • Robert Banks

      1) Code violations are not a police matter, until a summons has been issued, and it has been disputed in court.
      2) Seizure of items not listed in the warrant is a civil right violation, and a crime. (US Bill of Rights Title 4)
