The man responsible for “keeping you safe” on the internet has just been sentenced to 25 years for using the internet and the very tools given to him for this job, to run a child pornography empire.

Timothy DeFoggi, 56, was convicted on Aug. 26, 2014, following a four-day jury trial before Chief U.S. District Judge Laurie Smith Camp in the District of Nebraska of engaging in a child exploitation enterprise, conspiracy to advertise and distribute child pornography and accessing a computer with intent to view child pornography.
Today he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his repugnant criminal network of child exploitation.

Prior to getting caught in this disgusting scheme, DeFoggi was the acting director of cyber security at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The mission of the HHS cyber security program is to “Foster an enterprise-wide secure and trusted environment in support of HHS’ commitment to better health and well-being of the American people.”

Like so many people who promise to protect and serve, DeFoggi used his position to do the exact opposite.

“Using the same technological expertise he employed as Acting Director of Cyber Security at HHS, DeFoggi attempted to sexually exploit children and traffic in child pornography through an anonymous computer network of child predators,” said Assistant Attorney General Caldwell.  “But dangerous criminals cannot be allowed to operate on-line with impunity.  Today’s sentence shows that the Department of Justice will bring criminals and child predators to justice, even when they employ anonymous networks like Tor.”

According to the Department of Justice, through the website, DeFoggi accessed child pornography, solicited child pornography from other members, and exchanged private messages with other members in which he expressed an interest in the violent rape and murder of children.

DeFoggi suggested meeting one member in person to fulfill their mutual fantasies to violently rape and murder children.

Four other members of the same website as DeFoggi were previously convicted and sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Bataillon in connection with their illegal activity on the site.

These cases were brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.

The fact that DeFoggi received such a significant sentence for his crimes is encouraging. All too often we see sickos in positions of authority or wealth receive little more than a slap on the wrist for their disgusting crimes against children.

One example of this is Virginia State Trooper, Christopher Allen Carson, who was charged with with forcible sodomy on a minor, aggressive sexual battery and indecent liberties with a child, among other charges. This man orally forced himself onto a sleeping 7th grader and he was only sentenced to 30 days in jail.

To see people in higher positions get the axe is promising. Maybe all these other sickos throughout the system will think twice before acting out their deranged perversions after seeing what happened to DeFoggi. — Maybe.
