There is no better way to describe this than idiocy. Zara-Jayne Moisey, 25, a British citizen is facing jail in Dubai for extra-marital sex after taking a vacation and being gang-raped, and reporting that two men allegedly attacked her in her hotel and filmed it.

Moisey told United Arab Emirates police officers she was violently raped by two British men in the city of Dubai last month.

What resulted is the beginning of what she calls her “long petrified nightmare.” Instead of treating her as a victim UAE law enforcement confiscated her passport, and she now faces a trial. Moisey is out on bail and not allowed to leave the country. While her alleged attackers were also arrested and bailed out, they have since left the country and have flown home to the UK without any legal action according to reporters at the The Sun, who reportedly spoke to a family friend of the victim.

The two men have been identified as boxer David Butlin, 22, and footballer Louis Harris, 24, who strongly deny the claims according to The Guardian.

“It’s petrifying out here alone but I have to stay strong. There are many hurdles to cross and many emotional, fearful times ahead,” said Zara-Jayne Moisey.

Because of this incident, Brits are being urged to not report any sex crimes to Dubai police by Radha Stirling, the founder of Detained in Dubai, a UK charity organization that “assists people who have become victims of injustice” in the UAE.

“The UAE has a long history of penalizing rape victims,” Radha Stirling, director of Detained in Dubai, said.
“We have been involved with several cases in the past where this has happened, and we work with the lawyers and families and have campaigned to change attitudes in the police and judiciary. Recent cases show that it is still not safe for victims to report these crimes to the police without the risk of suffering a double punishment,” Stirling continued. “Police regularly fail to differentiate between consensual intercourse and violent rape. Victims go to them expecting justice and end up being prosecuted. They not only invalidate their victimization, they actually punish them for it.”

If convicted, Moisey faces years in prison, or worse severe capital physical punishment, including flogging and stoning to death, because of the country’s Islamic law which bans “having sex outside of marriage.”

Although feeling her human rights have been trampled on and feeling beaten and bruised from the insane notion that rape is an extra-marital affair, Moisey still remains hopeful and has expressed her hope on her Facebook, thanking everyone who is helping her fight this absurd charge.

“This helps me a lot because it makes me realize that you are all so loving and supportive and I feel like I’m talking directly to each and every one of you.I’m so overwhelmed by the amount of progress going into helping support me financially and lovingly. There are some very special people out there that have surprised me beyond belief and have brought tears to my eyes with such appreciation,” wrote Moisey on Facebook.
