Republican Sen. Rand Paul introduced a bill on Wednesday that would immediately halt U.S. aid to the Palestinians until they halt their effort to join the International Criminal Court to pursue war-crimes charges against Israel.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ recent turn to the international court at The Hague marked a major policy shift and transformed his relations with Israel from strained to openly hostile. Abbas has been under heavy domestic pressure to take stronger action against Israel after a 50-day war between the Jewish state and militants in Gaza over the summer, tensions over holy sites in Jerusalem and the failure of the last round of U.S.-led peace talks. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has issued a blistering response to the House Benghazi report released late Friday, on Thanksgiving weekend, which exonerated anyone from blame for the 2012 terrorist attack on the US consulate in Libya.
The report, compiled by the House Intelligence Committee concluded that “There was no intelligence failure prior to the attacks,” prompting Paul to fire back “This one sentence tells us how seriously we should take this report.”
“Benghazi was the definition of an intelligence failure.” The Senator said, adding “It was, in fact, one of the worst intelligence failures in our history, a strategic blunder that resulted in the murder of a U.S. Ambassador and three other Americans.” (more…)
I missed this story last week but it is important to note, it reads like something out of the Onion. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul introduced a bill called the “Stand With Israel Act” that would bar funds to a Palestinian government that includes Hamas and would also (per the JTA)
cut U.S. funding to the Palestinian Authority unless its government recognized Israel as a Jewish state.
Of course, Paul is thought to have presidential ambitions, and he has a big Israel problem. (more…)
The Senator says the NSA’s surveillance program violated American’s 4th amendment rights and the President refused to stop it. The Kentucky Republican, and 2016 Presidential prospect, will file the class-action lawsuit Wednesday.
It is unclear if the lawsuit will target the collection of phone records or the internet programs. (more…)
